Main accused in the killing of two Punjab workers arrested

Srinagar, Feb 13 (UNI) Days after two workers from Punjab were killed in a targeted attack here, J&K Police on Tuesday said that the main accused in the case has been arrested.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vidhi Kumar Birdi said the main accused Adil Manzoor Langoo of Zaldager in Srinagar, who was involved in the terror attack has been arrested and the weapon used in the crime has been seized.

On February 7, evening unknown terrorists opened fire on two persons at ShallaKadal and Shaheed Gunj in Srinagar in which Amritpal Singh of Chamyari in Punjab succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Another person Rohit Masi also from the same village succumbed to his injuries the next day morning at SKIMS Soura here.

Police said the two were coming back to Srinagar from Amritsar and were on way to their accommodation, when they were shot.
Birdi said a case was registered in Police Station Shaheed Gunj, Srinagar and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to probe the case.

He said Police investigation led to the identification of the accused who carried out the terrorist attack on two individuals from Punjab and subsequent recovery of weapon of offence and other incriminating material.
“Srinagar Police, on the basis of technical and field analysis, zeroed in upon certain suspects and later on, based upon clinching evidence collected during investigation, identified and arrested the main accused,” he added.

IGP Birdi said the accused had conspired with his handler in Pakistan for commission of the terror crime.
“Accused was a highly motivated and radicalized individual. His handler in Pakistan radicalized him on social media and motivated him to carry out the terror attack,” he said.
“The handler provided him the weapon after which he motivated him to carry out the attack. In furtherance of same, the accused identified his targets and tracked them in the lanes of Shalla Kadal on the fateful day and opened fire on both of them,” Birdi said.
Pertinently, Lashkar-e-Taiba’s affiliate TRF ( The Resistance Front) had claimed responsibility for this attack on their social media channel.

Soon after the attack, Deputy Inspector General of Police Central Kashmir Range, Rajiv Pande had constituted a SIT headed by Superintendent of Police South for investigation of the case.
