Major ICC shake-up as Khwaja voted off Board; Palani, Usmani, Van Vuuren elected

New Delhi, Jul 8 (UNI) The International Cricket Council (ICC) witnessed a major change in its leadership on Wednesday as long-serving Deputy Chairman Imran Khwaja failed to retain his place on the ICC Board in the Associate Member Directors’ elections held during the ICC Annual Conference, currently underway in Edinburgh, Scotland.
France Cricket president Gurumurthy Palani emerged as the biggest winner, topping the polls with 35 votes. UAE Cricket chief Mubashir Usmani and Cricket Namibia president Dr. Rudie van Vuuren also secured places on the 17-member all-powerful ICC Board after receiving 26 votes each. Khwaja, the veteran administrator from Singapore, finished fourth with 23 votes, narrowly missing out, while Malaysia's Mahinda Vallipuram received 19 votes.
The ICC confirmed that Palani, Usmani and Van Vuuren have been elected as Associate Member Directors for a two-year term. While Palani and Van Vuuren will join the ICC Board for the first time, Usmani has retained his seat.
