Manipur pays tributes to Anglo-Manipur War heroes at Khongjom

Imphal, April 23 (UNI ) People of Manipur observed Khongjom Day on Tuesday by paying tributes to all who sacrificed their lives in the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 at Khongjom War Memorial Complex, Khebaching, Thoubal.
A major decisive battle was fought at Khongjom between Manipuri and British troops where the Manipuri soldiers made a final stand of not retreating despite being outnumbered and attacked with superior weapons.
Following the war, Manipur lost sovereignty on 27 April 1891. Thousands of people including Governor Anusuiya Uikey and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Ministers, and MLAs paid tribute at the memorial.
