Manipur Police arrest sexual assault accused, militants; recover IED and ammunition

Imphal, July 7 (UNI) Manipur Police and security forces carried out a series of operations across the state on July 5 and 6, arresting a sexual assault accused, several active militant cadres, and recovering explosives, ammunition and other incriminating items, police said on Tuesday.
On July 5, acting on a complaint of sexual assault on a minor girl registered at Women Police Station, Senapati, Manipur Police arrested the accused, K. Luckyson Pundi of Maram Bazar under Maram Police Station, Senapati district, from his residence.
In a separate operation on Monday, security forces apprehended two juvenile active cadres of KNF (MC) from the Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) at P. Geljang in Churachandpur district. A total of 77 rounds of 5.56 mm live ammunition were recovered from their possession.
During area domination and foot patrolling at Chiru village in the Phayeng area under Kangchup Police Station, Kangpokpi district, on Monday, Manipur Police personnel recovered a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) along with four locally made mortar shells.
On the same day, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of UNLF (P) from the Porompat Police Station area. Police seized a licensed Thompson repeater single-barrel gun along with its licence and two Baofeng handheld communication sets with chargers from his possession.
Earlier, on July 5, security forces arrested an active cadre of NRFM, from Luwangsangbam Makha Leikai under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. Police said the accused was involved in a recent firing incident at a residential house in Pangei, Imphal East, allegedly to intimidate residents and extort money.
In another operation on July 5, security forces also arrested an active cadre of URF, from Khurai Nandeibam Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. The accused is a resident of Khabeisoi Sabal Leikai in Imphal East district.
