MANN HUMMEL to invest over Rs 100 crore in India, launches Karnataka innovation hub

Bengaluru, May 20 (UNI) MANN HUMMEL, a global leader in filtration technology, on Wednesday announced investments exceeding Rs 100 crore in India with the launch of its new Global Technology & Innovation Center in Karnataka and plans for a new manufacturing facility in Pune.
The company inaugurated its state-of-the-art Global Technology & Innovation Center at Tumkur in Karnataka, describing it as MANN HUMMEL’s largest development centre outside Germany and a major milestone in its global growth and innovation strategy.
The new facility is aimed at accelerating global product development and customer-centric innovation by bringing together advanced research laboratories, testing infrastructure, digital engineering, and data analytics under one roof.
According to the company, the centre will support the development of next-generation filtration solutions across mobility, industrial applications, clean air technologies, and water purification systems while enabling faster time-to-market and closer collaboration with customers worldwide.
Speaking at the launch, Kurt Wilks, President and CEO of MANN HUMMEL Group, said India had emerged as one of the company’s most important engineering and innovation destinations globally.
“The new Global Technology & Innovation Center in India marks a significant milestone in MANN HUMMEL’s global innovation journey. India stands at the forefront of engineering talent and technological advancement, making it a natural choice for our largest development hub outside Germany,” he said.
Wilks said the new centre would accelerate innovation capabilities and help the company deliver scalable and sustainable filtration solutions globally.
Sudeesh Karimbingal, Managing Director of MANN HUMMEL India, said the facility reflected India’s growing role as a strategic engineering and growth hub for the company.
“For more than two decades, our Indian engineering team has contributed significantly to global product development. This centre marks India’s transition from a support hub to a strategic engineering powerhouse driving innovation for both local and global markets,” he said.
The company also announced plans to establish a new manufacturing facility in Pune, which will cater to automotive passenger vehicles, heavy-duty on-road and off-road applications, and industrial segments through an integrated manufacturing setup for advanced filtration solutions.
MANN HUMMEL said the combined investment in the Tumkur innovation centre and the proposed Pune facility is expected to exceed Rs 100 crore, reaffirming its long-term commitment to the Indian market.
The company currently employs around 1,250 people across its India operations and expects to create an additional 300 to 400 jobs over the next 12 months.
With manufacturing operations already present in Tumkur in Karnataka and Bawal in Haryana, along with its Global Technology & Innovation Center in Bengaluru, the company said the Pune expansion would further strengthen its manufacturing and customer support capabilities in the country.
MANN HUMMEL said India is among its fastest-growing markets and currently houses more than one-third of the company’s global R&D workforce.
As part of its sustainability-focused strategy, the Tumkur facility will work on energy-efficient filtration systems, reduction of lifecycle emissions, circular manufacturing solutions, use of recycled materials, and environmentally friendly product design.
The company said the centre would also contribute towards addressing environmental challenges such as air pollution, industrial emissions, water purification, and access to clean water.
Headquartered in Ludwigsburg, Germany, MANN HUMMEL develops intelligent filtration and separation solutions for transportation and life sciences and environment sectors. Founded in 1941, the family-owned company employs more than 20,000 people across over 80 locations worldwide and reported sales of EUR 4.2 billion in 2025.
