Market ends lower with Nifty finishing around 25,750

New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) The Indian stock markets extended the losing streak for the third consecutive session today, with Nifty finishing lower at around 25,750.
At close, the Sensex was down 275.01 points or 0.32 percent at 84,391.27, and the Nifty was down 81.65 points or 0.32 pc at 25,758.
Broader indices underperformed the main indices with BSE Midcap index losing 1 pc and Smallcap index falling 0.7 pc. The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms rose to nearly Rs 463.8 lakh crore from Rs 465 lakh crore in the previous session.
Top gainers on Nifty were Eicher Motors up by 1.54 pc, Hindalco Industries up by 1.07 pc, and HDFC Life Insurance Company up by 1.06 pc while the shares of InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) went down by 3.17 pc, Eternal down by 3.09 pc, and Trent down by 1.77 pc.
Among the sectors, Consumer Durables was down 1.72 pc, IT (by 0.89 pc), and PSU Bank (by 0.70 pc) ending with significant losses. Nifty Bank fell by 0.44 pc and Financial Services index dropped 0.53 pc.
On the other hand, Nifty Media (by 0.48 pc), Metal (by 0.46 pc) and Pharma (by 0.17 pc) edged higher.
Out of 4,337 stocks traded on the BSE, 1,898 advanced, while 2,289 declined. Some 150 stocks remained unchanged.
On the BSE, around 74 stocks hit their 52-week highs while 136 stocks fell to their 52-week lows.
Those on highs were Eicher Motors, AU Small Finance Bank, Anupam Rasayan India, and Aditya Birla Capital. Blue Dart Express, Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals, Dixon Technologies (India), Inox Wind, Page Industries, Piramal Pharma, and Sapphire Foods India were among hitting low.
In some stock-specific action, Godrej Industries shares added 1pc after arm signs MoU with Government of Telangana, Adani Green shares down 1% post 2.24 crore shares block deal.
Shares of metal companies also rose in trade as investors increasingly expect the US Federal Reserve to announce a rate cut.
Hindustan Zinc shares were rising over 4 pc, Vedanta and Jindal Stainless Steel shares gained nearly 2 pc, while Hindalco Industries and Tata Steel shares rose around 1 pc each.
