MCL inks Rs 5.99 cr MoU for education, community development in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district

Bhuwaneshwar, Nov 11 (UNI) Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has inked two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the District Administration, Jharsuguda, for key Corporate Social Responsibility projects to upgrade educational facilities, strengthen digital learning infrastructure, and improve community spaces within the district.
Under the first MoU, MCL will provide Rs 4.50 crore for the construction of electrified classrooms at Brajrajnagar College and rejuvenation and beautification of the Khaliakani Pond in Brajrajnagar which includes jetty construction, pathway development, and landscaping.
This initiative is designed to restore the pond’s ecological value and enhance it as a functional public space for local residents.
While in another MoU, MCL will provide Rs 1.49 crores to District administration, Jharsuguda to establish ICT labs in 130 Government Upper Primary Schools of Jharsuguda District.
This will include desktop computers, UPS systems, computer tables, and chairs, enabling greater access to digital education. This project will help to boost digital literacy and ensure inclusive, technology-driven learning opportunities for students across the district.
Through these meaningful CSR initiatives, MCL reaffirms its continued commitment to strengthen educational and public infrastructure and contribute to sustainable community development across its operational areas, claimed the coal producing company in a statement.
