Meghalaya: Dialogue inconclusive; government to hold next round of talks with teachers

Shillong, May 6 (UNI) The meeting between the protesting teachers and non-teaching staff of deficit schools and colleges, and the Meghalaya government over the new 2026 centralised fund scheme on Wednesday, ended on an inconclusive note .
Representatives of the Meghalaya College Teachers Association (MCTA) and Khasi Jaintia Deficit Teachers’ Association (KJDSTA) walked out of the meeting chaired by Commissioner & Secretary Education department, Vijay Mantri, rejecting the notified Meghalaya Non-Government Schools and Colleges Employees Centralised Fund Scheme, 2026.
Mantri said the government will convene another round of talks with deficit school and college teachers either on May 19 or 20 to discuss the Meghalaya Non-Government School and College Employees Centralised Provident Fund Scheme, 2026, following objections raised over the composition of an earlier meeting.

The interaction, held at the Tourist Lodge in Mamit near the Tripura and Bangladesh borders, brought together representatives of prominent community-based organisations such as the

Routine check-up leads to early cancer detection for Mizoram patient

Aizawl, May 12 (UNI) What began as a routine hospital visit for diabetes treatment turned into
a life-saving intervention for a 56-year-old businessman from Mizoram after doctors at Manipal Hospitals in Kolkata detected prostate cancer at an early stage and successfully treated him through robotic-assisted surgery.
H. Zohmingthanga, a resident of Aizawl, had approached Manipal Hospitals EM Bypass for medical evaluation following persistent health concerns.
