Met Centre Aizawl marks Earth Day with focus on climate resilience

Aizawl, Apr 22 (UNI) Emphasising the crucial role of science and technology in building a sustainable future, the Meteorological Centre in Aizawl observed Earth Day 2025 with a thematic event centred around “Our Power, Our Planet.”
Held at the Centre’s premises on Tuesday, the programme brought together educators, government officials, and climate science professionals to reflect on environmental responsibility and the contribution of meteorological services in enhancing disaster preparedness and climate resilience.
Sudheer Kumar Dwivedi, Director of the Aizawl Meteorological Centre, highlighted the importance of accurate weather forecasting in north-eastern India, where complex terrain presents unique challenges. He noted that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) is expanding its capacity with cutting-edge satellite data, digital tools, and predictive technology. “We are witnessing a transformative phase in the IMD’s regional services, especially in the northeast,” he said.

Guwahati, May 22 (UNI) One person was arrested in Assam's Golaghat district on Thursday for his alleged involvement in killing a Royal Bengal Tiger,
The arrest took place following recovery of a carcass of an adult tiger from an area under Khumtai revenue circle during the day. Some parts of the tiger's body like the teeth, tail and claws were missing.
