New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) A senior journalist’s motorcycle was stolen from inside the Northeast District Magistrate’s office complex in Delhi on Jan. 21, according to police, highlighting gaps in security at the government facility.
The theft took place around 2:30 pm while the journalist was at the complex on official work. The motorcycle had been parked near the election single-window system office within the premises.
An FIR has been registered at Nand Nagri Police Station. Police said CCTV footage from inside the complex showed an unidentified man taking the motorcycle and leaving the premises.
Security personnel at the complex said such incidents had occurred earlier. A motorcycle belonging to an officer of the Women and Child Development Department’s Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) had also been stolen from the campus in the past, they said.
In a separate incident earlier, parts of an air-conditioning unit installed outside the office of Northeast District Magistrate Ajay Kumar were stolen. The area was later covered with mesh, but no broader changes to security arrangements were made.
The complex does not have CCTV cameras at the main entrance gate, and there is no system to check vehicles leaving the premises, according to officials familiar with the matter.
The incident comes as the Delhi government seeks to upgrade district offices into “mini-secretariats” with expanded public services.
