National Honour, Supreme Court Judges Bills to be introduced as Monsoon Session begins

New Delhi, Jul 19 (UNI) The government will introduce two significant bills in Parliament on Monday as the Monsoon Session gets underway, with one proposing amendments to the law on insults to national honour in the Rajya Sabha and another seeking changes to the legislation governing the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges in the Lok Sabha.
According to the List of Business for July 20, union Home Minister Amit Shah will seek leave to introduce the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Rajya Sabha. The proposed legislation seeks to amend the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. While the bill is slated for introduction, the government has not yet disclosed the nature of the proposed amendments.
The Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971 prescribes penalties for acts deemed insulting to the National Flag, the Constitution of India, and the National Anthem. The law has undergone amendments in the past to strengthen the protection of national symbols and uphold their dignity.
