National Press Day observed in Manipur with focus on combating misinformation

Imphal, Nov 16 (UNI) The Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Manipur, observed National Press Day 2025 at the DIPR Auditorium, Nityaipat Chuthek, Imphal, highlighting the theme 'Safeguarding Press Credibility Amidst Rising Misinformation'. The event underscored the growing challenges faced by the media in an era dominated by rapid information flow and misinformation.
Hungyo Worshang, Secretary, Information and Public Relations (IPR), Government of Manipur, attended the function as Chief Guest. Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director (IPR), presided over the event, while senior journalist and editor of Imphal Review of Arts & Politics, Pradip Phanjoubam, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. The programme featured the presentation of the Manipur State Journalist Awards 2025 along with a workshop aligned with this year’s theme.
In his address, Hungyo Worshang said National Press Day stands as a symbol of a free and responsible press in India. Emphasising the relevance of this year’s theme, he expressed concern over the growing volume of misinformation and the need to preserve press credibility. He highlighted the difficulties journalists in Manipur face due to the influence of various pressure groups, which often obstruct the delivery of factual and objective news.
