Tewary commission report still relevant, Assam CM reiterated stand to table report in House on Nov 25

Guwahati, Nov 14 (UNI) Reiterating government's decision to table the Tewary commission report in assembly, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that the report is still relevant to the situation in Assam now
The chief minister said this today and added that the cabinet has approved that the copies of the report will be circulated among the members of the assembly and will also be kept in the library of the assembly.
"Assam has witnessed unprecedented violence in 1983. Over 2000 people were killed and about 3 lakhs people lived in relief camps for months. However, the focus of the report is not the incidents of violence but on the demographic change in Assam since 1951. It discussed how the indigenous people had lost their farmlands to immigration. It said how the local Assamese people are losing their economic, political and cultural identity," he said.
