Indo-Nepal border road project in final stage

Patna, May 13 (UNI) With completion of more than 80 percent of the work, the long-cherished Indo-Nepal border road project adjoining Bihar, being executed to connect 7 bordering districts of the state, was in the final stage.
Bihar road construction Minister Nitin Nabin said here on Tuesday that altogether 554 km long roads were being constructed under the project, of which 450 km roads have been constructed. He said that a target has been set to complete the project by December this year and dedicate it to the public.
The Minister said that the roads starting from Madanpur of West Champaran district up to Siliguri via Kishanganj and Galgalia were being constructed at an expenditure of Rs 2486.22 crore.
He said the state government was also spending Rs 3300 crore on land acquisition for the project and on the construction of 131 bridges and culverts. Navin said that the road would connect the bordering districts, including West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj. The project, apart from providing better and safer connectivity, would also boost business and other activities in the bordering districts.
Outlining the details of the project, the Minister said that it was started in the year 2010 to connect the outposts of Seema Suraksha Bal with roads and to check the illegal activities in the bordering areas.
He said that of the 1372 km long Indo-Nepal border, 554 km of the project is situated in Bihar and the rest is in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
