NGOs, political parties unite against FCAA 2023

Aizawl, Sep 7(UNI) A wide spectrum of organisations and political parties in Mizoram joined hands today at the Aijal Club to oppose the Forest Conservation Amendment Act, 2023 (FCAA 2023), which the Mizoram Legislative Assembly adopted verbatim on August 27.
The consultation, convened by the Joint Civil Society of Mizoram (JCM), expressed serious apprehensions that the Act could endanger tribal land rights and safeguards, bring lasting harm to the people and the environment, and prove unsafe for future generations.
Representatives from major bodies including the Central committee of the Young Mizo Association, MHIP (Mizo women's organisation), Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Mizo National Front (MNF), People’s Conference (PC), Mizoram Transformation Movement (MTM), Centre for Environment and Social Justice, Mizoram First, CATAJ, Zo Re-unification Organisation (ZORO), along with 12 environmental NGOs, took part in the meeting.
