BBC regrets not cutting Bob Vylan’s performance short after hate speech

London, June 30 (UNI) English punk rock-rap duo Bob Vylan has been slammed for its anti-Israel and anti-Semitic remarks during its concert in Glastonbury, with the BBC saying it “regrets” not cutting the duo’s time short after its stunt, reports Deadline.

The UK-based organisation initially said it would not be making the set available on-demand but has now gone further, expressing regret at its failure to pull the live stream halfway through.

The BBC further said that Vylan’s expressions “were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves.”

It explained that the performance was aired on its channels because the BBC team was dealing with “a live situation” but added that “with hindsight we should have pulled the stream during the performance.”

The punk duo, which is noted for its politically charged lyrics, immersed itself in a massive controversy after making chants of “death to the IDF (Israeli Defence Forces)”, and “from the river to the sea, Palestine must be, will be, free,” while complaining about working for a “f****** Zionist.”

The Israeli embassy in the U.K. said it was “deeply disturbed by the inflammatory and hateful rhetoric expressed on stage” and that “when such messages are delivered before tens of thousands of festivalgoers and met with applause, it raises serious concerns about the normalisation of extremist language and the glorification of violence.”

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer also heavily condemned Vylan’s actions on the Glastonbury stage, saying, “There is no excuse for this kind of appalling hate speech.” He also demanded that the BBC answer questions about streaming the controversial remarks. UNI ANV SSP
