ED attaches properties worth Rs 158.85 cr in Rohtas Group money laundering case

New Delhi, Jan 23 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Lucknow Zonal Office, on Friday said that it has attached 75 immovable and two movable properties worth Rs 158.85 crore, having a current market value of more than Rs 350 crore, in connection with a money laundering case related to Rohtas Project Limited and others.
An ED official said that the immovable properties worth Rs 141.21 crore are registered in the name of Deepak Rastogi, promoter of the Rohtas Group of companies; associate companies of the Rohtas Group; Vardan Township Pvt Ltd; several benamidars of the Rohtas Group; and Adhyaye Realty Infrastructure LLP. The movable properties worth ₹17.64 crore are in the name of M/s Highness Infra Developers Pvt Ltd. All the immovable properties are located in Lucknow.
The ED initiated the investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, based on 83 FIRs registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police. Rohtas Project Limited floated township schemes, namely the ‘Sultanpur Road Project’, ‘Raebareli Road Project’, and ‘Rohtas Plumeria’, under which customers could book plots, land, or flats of different sizes. After 30 months from the date of booking, customers were promised either possession of the booked property or a lump-sum return of 150 per cent of the booking amount. However, the projects were neither developed nor was the money returned to the customers.
