Cabinet clears extension of Atal Pension Yojana till FY31, approves continued government support

New Delhi, Jan 21 (UNI) In a significant boost to social security for unorganised sector workers, the union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) up to 2030-31, along with the extension of government funding support for promotional and developmental activities and gap funding, an official release said after the meeting.
The decision ensures sustained government backing for expanding outreach among low-income and unorganised workers, strengthening awareness and capacity-building efforts, and providing gap funding to meet viability requirements and ensure the long-term sustainability of the scheme.
"The Cabinet's approval reinforces the government's commitment to ensuring old-age income security for millions of workers who remain outside formal pension systems," the government said, adding that the extension will help deepen financial inclusion and support India's transition towards a pensioned society.
