Opposition MPs hold protest against deportation of alleged illegal Indian immigrants from US

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Opposition MPs of both the houses of Parliament on Thursday held a protest in the Parliament premises over the issue of deportation of alleged illegal Indian immigrants from the United States.

Opposition members including Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav, Shashi Tharoor, KC Venugopal, Gaurav Gogoi and others raised slogans holding placards written as "Humans not Prisoner" and "Indians insulted, India won't stay silent" and staged protest.

Notably, some members had also tied their hands with chains, while participating in the protest.

Talking to reporters, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, "It is said that Modi ji and Trump ji are very good friends. But why did Modi ji let this happen? Why did we not send our own plane to bring those illegal Indian immigrants? The people were sent back with handcuffs. Is this how people are treated?"

She said that the External Affairs Minister and the Prime Minister should reply.

“This is not the way," Priyanka said.

Earlier, the lower house was adjourned twice, one till 12 noon and the second till 2 pm, after the Opposition members created ruckus demanding discussion on the issue of deportation of Indian nationals, who were allegedly illegally living in the US.
