We strongly condemn New Orleans terror attack: PM Modi

New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said India strongly condemns the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans in which 15 people were killed and several wounded when a man, inspired by the Islamic State, drove his pick-up truck into large crowds celebrating New Year’s Day.
In a post on X, the PM said:
“We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy.”
The FBI has said the New Orleans attack is being treated as an act of terrorism after an Islamic State group flag was found attached to the truck.
The driver of a pick-up truck that sped into large crowds in New Orleans’ French Quarter has been identified as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old US Army veteran from Texas, who was killed in a shootout with police
President Joe Biden said the attacker was inspired by the Islamic State group.
Authorities are investigating whether there is a link between the New Orleans’ attack and a separate incident involving a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas that killed the driver and injured seven others.
