PM Modi pays homage to Lal Bahadur Shastri on birth anniversary

New Delhi, Oct 2 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid homage to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his birth anniversary, recalling his legacy of integrity, humility, and steadfast leadership during pivotal moments in India's post-Independence history.
In a message posted on social media platform X, Modi described Shastri as "an extraordinary statesman" whose life and work continue to serve as an inspiration for generations of Indians.
"His clarion call of 'Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan' ignited a spirit of patriotism among our people. He continues to motivate us in the endeavour of building a strong and self-reliant India," the Prime Minister wrote.
Modi also underlined Shastri's contributions in shaping the moral and strategic direction of the nation during times of adversity.
"His leadership, marked by simplicity and resolve, strengthened India, especially during challenging times," he added.
Born on October 2, 1904, Shastri served as India's second Prime Minister and is remembered for his leadership during the Indo-Pak war of 1965 and for giving voice to the concerns of soldiers and farmers alike.
