New Delhi, July 19 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Ursula von der Leyen on being re-elected as President of the European Commission, and said he looks forward to working together to strengthen the bilateral partnership.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said:
"Congratulations, @vonderleyen, on your re-election as the President of the European Commission. Look forward to working together to strengthen the India-European Union Strategic Partnership for global good."
The European Parliament re-elected Ursula von der Leyen to a second term as President of the European Commission. Von der Leyen’s candidacy was supported by 401 out of 720 Members of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Thursday. She received 41 more votes than she needed.
Von der Leyen, of the centre-right European People’s Party (EPP), has been serving as the President of the European Commission since December, 2019
Ahead of the vote, von der Leyen also said she would champion European defence with increased military spending, and committed to sticking to climate targets.
