Opposition leaders in RS demand debate on deportation of Indians by US

New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) Many Opposition members on Thursday demanded discussion over the deportation of Indian citizens in a military aircraft by the United States of America (US).
Among the members who gave notices for the discussion were CPI MP Sandosh Kumar P, Sanjay Singh of AAP, Saket Gokhale of TMC, and Congress leaders Renuka Chowdhury, Shaktisinh Gohil, and Pramod Tiwari.
Rajya Sabha deputy chairman Harivansh rejected the notices given by the members under Rule 267 of the House proceedings. He said that the notices did not conform to the rulings given earlier with regards to Rule 267.
"Since the notices do not conform to the directives imparted by the Chair, they are not admitted," Harivansh said.
Ever since Donald Trump has assumed office as US President, he has been targeting 'illegal' immigrants residing in the US. Following his executive order in this regard, the concerned US agencies have launched a massive crackdown on such immigrants.
A US military aircraft carrying at least 100 Indian citizens landed in Amritsar on Wednesday.
Some of the Opposition members also wanted discussion on the tragedy in Mahakumbh in Prayagraj by suspending the scheduled business of the House.
As the House deputy chairman declined the notices, members of the Opposition created ruckus. The House was soon adjourned to meet at 12 PM.
