SP MLAs create ruckus in assembly, attempt to disrupt Guv's address

Lucknow, Feb 18 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) members on Tuesday created a ruckus during Governor Anandiben Patel's address to the joint session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislature on the first day of the budget session.
As soon as the address of the Governor started in the assembly, the SP MLAs stood up from their seats and started raising anti-government slogans. Speaker Satish Mahana urged the members to listen to the address citing the dignity of the House, but they kept raising slogans.
The SP members, who even stormed into the well of the house shouted slogans of 'Governor go back' and 'stop delivering false statement'. Amidst ruckus by the SP legislators, the Governor read out a portion of her address.
Before the proceedings of the House began, SP members, led by Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey, staged a sit-in on the Legislative Assembly premises. The members were carrying placards with anti-government slogans written on them like 'Data should be disclosed, truth should not be hidden', 'youth ruined by unemployment, this government has failed', 'corrupt and false BJP government is responsible for the tears of the people'.
SP MLA Atul Pradhan came wearing shackles. He said that Indians expelled from America are being sent to India wearing shackles, which is an insult, but the government has not yet expressed its protest in this regard.
At the same time, SP legislator Ashutosh Sinha reached the Vidhan Bhawan on a bicycle, accusing the government of hiding the deaths that happened in the stampede at Kumbh. During this time, he was carrying an urn of ashes in his hand.
Before the session started, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appealed to the opposition to maintain restraint and said that the session begins with the Governor's address and in this session, the state government's budget for the whole year is also passed.
It may be noted that the budget session of the UP Legislature which started on Tuesday is expected to continue till March 5. During this, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna will table the general budget for the year 2025-26 in the House on February 20.
