Himachal HC suspends sentence of convict in CBI corruption case

Shimla, Jan 17 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Saturday suspended the substantive sentence awarded to Babli Sharma in a corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing the heavy pendency of criminal appeals before the Court.
The order was passed by the Vacation Judge while hearing Criminal Appeal No. 18 of 2026 filed by Babli Sharma challenging her conviction by the Special Judge (CBI), Shimla. The appeal arises out of Corruption Trial No. 15-S/7 of 2020, in which the trial court had convicted the appellant in November 2025.
As per the trial court judgment, Babli Sharma was held guilty of offences punishable under Sections 120-B read with Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 13(1)(d) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. She was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years under various counts and was also directed to pay fines amounting to Rs 50,000 in total, with additional default sentences.
