Legacy of Valour to take centre stage as UP Tourism develops Maharaja Suheldev Asht Khamba Stupa in Ambedkar Nagar

Ambedkar Nagar, Jan 15 ( UNI) In a move that blends remembrance with renewal, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is set to undertake the tourism development of the historic Rajbhar dynastic Asht Khamba Stupa at Larpur in Ambedkar Nagar.
Associated with the legacy of Maharaja Suheldev, the revered warrior of the Rajbhar community, the site will be developed with an allocation of Rs 1 crore. The initiative reflects the state’s commitment to preserving heritage while creating inclusive tourism spaces that speak to diverse histories and communities.
The Asht Khamba Stupa is closely linked to the Rajbhar lineage and the legacy of Maharaja Suheldev, who is remembered for protecting the region during the eleventh century at a time of repeated foreign incursions. Historical accounts recall that during attacks led by Syed Salar Masud, significant damage was caused to religious and cultural symbols, including the Asht Khambas which held deep spiritual and social meaning for the Rajbhar community. Maharaja Suheldev’s decisive victory restored stability to the region, and the subsequent revival of the Asht Khambas turned them into enduring symbols of resilience and cultural pride.
