Cybercrime police save pensioner from Rs 5 lakh APK fraud

Hyderabad, Nov 8 (UNI) A prompt response by Hyderabad Cybercrime Police has saved a pensioner from losing his entire savings after he recently fell victim to a malicious APK fraud.
The pensioner had searched online for the Punjab National Bank helpline to submit his ‘Life Certificate,’ which is necessary to ensure uninterrupted pension payment, but unknowingly contacted a fraudulent phone number listed by cybercriminals, a police release said here today.
During the conversation, the fraudsters impersonated bank officials and informed the pensioner to intall a malicious APK application sent through WhatsApp, claiming it was required for completing the verification process.
