Sixteen candidates including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in fray from Wayanad

Wayanad, Oct 30 (UNI) As many as 16 candidates including AICC General secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are in the fray for the Lok Sabha by-poll in the Wayanad constituency after the deadline for withdrawal expired on Wednesday.
Returning officer D.R. Meghasree said the contestants include eight independents.
Candidates from New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad and Tamilnadu were contesting from the seat.

Apart from Congress nominee Priyanka, who hails from New Delhi the other prominent candidates were Navya Haridas of BJP and Sathyan Mokeri of the Communist Party of India (CPI).
The voting will be held on November 13. The bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of incumbent MP and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, after he decided to retain the Raebareli seat. Gandhi had won from both Wayanad and Raebareli in the general elections earlier this year. UNI AK SSP
