New Delhi, Feb 4 (UNI) In a significant development concerning the governance of sports federations in India, the Supreme Court on Tuesday emphasised the need for strong measures to "infuse purity, fairness, autonomy, and independence" in the election processes of sports federations.
The court further stressed the necessity of "ousting persons who have monopolised sports federations for their vested interests."
The bench, comprising Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh, was hearing a writ petition filed by Priyanka and Pooja, seeking permission to participate in the Asian Kabaddi Championship scheduled to be held in Iran from February 20 to 25. Their participation is currently uncertain due to the suspension of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI) by the International Kabaddi Federation, which the petitioners allege is merely a private company registered in India.
