FIFA's social media protection service identified over 31,000 offensive posts in 2025

Zürich, Nov 17 (UNI/SPUTNIK) The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) said on Sunday that it had identified over 30,000 offensive posts this year and referred 11 offenders to law enforcement agencies through the FIFA Social Media Protection Service (SMPS).
"Since the launch of the SMPS in 2022, more than 65,000 abusive posts have been reported to social media platforms for review and removal, including over 30,000 since the start of this year. Since the beginning of this year, 11 individuals have been reported to global law enforcement authorities in Argentina, Brazil, France, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States following abuse during FIFA competitions, and one case was submitted to Interpol," the statement read.
This year, the SMPS was used at several competitions, including the Club World Cup held in the United States this summer, FIFA said. The service tracked 2,401 active accounts across five social networks, including those of football players, coaches, teams, and referees, according to the statement. A total of 5.9 million publications were analyzed, 179,517 of which were marked for review, and 20,587 were sent to platform moderators, FIFA added.
