Mumbai, Aug 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday expressed his condolences to the families of 27 pilgrims from Nashik who were killed in a bus accident in Nepal's Jalgaon district.
Shinde discussed with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior central officials about transporting the bodies to Nashik and Shah assured all possible help.
The CM’s office, in a release, said that the Union Home Minister responded quickly to the Chief Minister’s request and assured that the bodies would be brought back to Nashik in an Indian Air Force (IAF) plane by Saturday.
Shah also said that a special officer has been appointed for coordination.
As soon as the news came to light that 27 pilgrims travelling in a bus died in an accident in Jalgaon District in Nepal, Chief Minister Shinde continuously communicated with the officials of the relief and rehabilitation department of the state and the central authorities to get information about the relief work.
Meanwhile, responding to the Chief Minister's appeal, a special aircraft of the IAF will be made available to bring the bodies from Nepal to Gorakhpur and later to Nashik. After that, the bodies will be handed over to the families.
It may be noted that at least 27 pilgrims from Maharashtra, who were in Nepal for a 10-day tour, were killed and 16 others injured after their bus veered off the highway and fell into a fast-flowing river in central Nepal on Friday.
