Prithviraj Chavan demands aviation minister’s resignation over IndiGo crisis

Mumbai, Dec 8 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday demanded the immediate resignation of the union Civil Aviation Minister over the recent IndiGo operational crisis, alleging that it was the result of government negligence and regulatory leniency.
Speaking at a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan in Colaba, Chavan said passengers suffered severe hardship due to what he described as growing monopoly in the aviation sector, violations of regulations, and undue leniency shown by the Civil Aviation Ministry and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Chavan alleged that IndiGo’s large-scale operational breakdown was not merely mismanagement but the outcome of the government failing to enforce rules scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2024. He said this had allowed an “unprecedented monopoly”, claiming that IndiGo controls 65 per cent of the market while the Tata Group holds 30 per cent, which he termed dangerous for passenger interests.
