Maharashtra: Election code casts a shadow over Nagpur Winter Session

Nagpur, Dec 4 (UNI): The Maharashtra legislature’s winter session, scheduled to open in Nagpur, is set to unfold under the constraints of an extended model code of conduct for municipal councils and Nagar Panchayat elections raising concerns about the government’s ability to announce any major initiatives for Vidarbha.
Held every year in Nagpur under the provisions of the Nagpur Pact, the session has already been shortened. Originally planned from December 8 to 19, it will now end on December 14 following a decision in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC).
The uncertainty follows an order by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court, which directed that counting for all municipal council and Nagar Panchayat elections be conducted on December 21. As a result, the State Election Commission’s code of conduct, initially expected to expire on December 4, will now remain in effect until December 21, according to collectorate officials.
