Pak House descends into uproar post signing US-headed Board of Peace

Islamabad, Jan 23 (UNI) Pakistan’s decision to join US President Donald Trump’s newly launched Board of Peace for Gaza has triggered a fierce backlash within the country’s political strata, as the entire parliament erupted in massive uproar on Thursday, with opposition parties decrying the move as little more than the leadership’s attempt to cozy up to Trump and curry favour with Washington.
Further questioning the lack of transparency and the absence of parliamentary approval in a matter linked to a sensitive issue like Gaza, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, slammed the government, accusing it of shaping its foreign policy on the basis of international pressure, as opposed to crafting them on national importance requirements.
Taking to the National Assembly floor, Rehman said the administration was obligated to brief the parliament before making decisions of such national importance, and questioned whether the federal cabinet had even been fully taken into confidence, before the decision was made.
