Odisha Cabinet approves Ordinance to broaden Chancellor’s powers in VC appointments

Bhubaneswar, July 16 (UNI) The Odisha Cabinet tonight approved the promulgation of the Odisha Universities (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025, aimed at expanding the Chancellor’s authority in the appointment of Vice-Chancellors (VCs) for public universities.
Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja said the decision reflects the state government's proactive approach to improving the academic environment and ensuring administrative stability across state universities.
He said the Ordinance introduces minor but essential amendments under the Odisha Universities Act, 1989, intended to address recurring administrative challenges.
