Omar stresses respect for elected representatives after MLA–SDM row

Srinagar, Dec 15 (UNI) A day after an NC lawmaker lodged a complaint against a sub-divisional magistrate in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, alleging humiliation and disrespect, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said it was the responsibility of every officer to treat elected representatives with due respect.
“The elected representative does not come from the sky. People elect him and send him (to the Assembly). It is the responsibility of the administration to deal with elected representatives with respect,” Omar told reporters in Srinagar when asked about the controversy.
National Conference MLA from Chadoora, Ali Mohammad Dar on Sunday lodged a complaint against SDM Chadoora with Police, alleging humiliation and disrespect during a demolition drive of brick kilns operating in the district. The MLA said that he was against any encroachment, but it was the administration that allowed these kilns to operate for the last eight years.
