Oscar-winning actor Cillian Murphy to play reform school headmaster in upcoming drama film ‘Steve’

Los Angeles, Aug 13 (UNI) Actor Cillian Murphy is now going to appear as a head teacher for boys bogged down by societal issues in his upcoming Netflix movie ‘Steve.’

Based on the book ‘Shy’ by author and the film’s writer Max Porter, the movie will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, before becoming open for a theatrical run from September 19, and streaming on Netflix on October 3, reports Deadline.

The film reimagines Porter’s book from the reform school head teacher Steve’s point of view. Porter wrote the script and executive produces the project. Tim Mielants, who recently helmed Big Things Films’ ‘Small Things Like These’, will be the director.

A drama film, the movie is set in the mid-1990s and follows a pivotal day in the life of Murphy’s eponymous character and his students at a last-chance reform school amidst a world that has forsaken them. As Steve fights to protect the school’s integrity while also fighting its impending closure, he grapples with his own mental health.

In parallel to Steve’s struggles, troubled teen Shy (Jay Lycurgo) is caught between his past and what lies ahead as he tries to reconcile his inner fragility with his impulse for self-destruction and violence.

The Academy Award winning actor, describing his role, said that it was “one of the most kind of exposing and terrifying characters I’ve ever played,” adding that “no real prep” was needed for the role, as Murphy belongs to a family of teachers. UNI ANV SSP
