Our strength lies in our diversity: Dr. Shashi Tharoor

Pune, Oct 11 (UNI) The idea of ‘one nation, one election, one party, one language’ overlooks the true strength of our diversity,” said Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs.
Addressing the Literary Festival organized by the Symbiosis School for Liberal Arts (SSLA), Symbiosis International (Deemed University), at the Symbiosis Ishanya Auditorium, Viman Nagar here, he said, “Our philosophy teaches us that the ultimate truth must first be found within ourselves. The vision of heaven is not rooted in the afterlife, but in the here and now, in a society where harmony prevails. The idea of ‘one nation, one election, one party, one language’ overlooks the true strength of our diversity."
Dr. Tharoor further said, “In an age driven by algorithms and analytics, it’s easy to believe that data alone can guide us. But data needs a narrative. Facts need context. Truth needs telling. That’s why we must invest in language, in education, in English and mother tongues, in libraries, translations, and festivals like this one. Let’s teach our children not only to code but also to create. Storytelling isn’t a luxury, it’s essential.”
