Over 13 kg meth seized in Mizoram in separate operations; five arrested

Aizawl, Jan 13 (UNI) Enforcement agencies in Mizoram have seized a large quantity of methamphetamine in two separate operations over the past few weeks, arresting five persons and highlighting the state’s continued vulnerability as a transit route for narcotics trafficking.
In the latest operation, the Excise and Narcotics Department on Monday night seized 11.118 kg of methamphetamine tablets from Khatla locality near the Tennis Court in Aizawl and arrested two persons in connection with the case.
Officials said the seizure was made around 7.30 pm on January 12. The contraband, comprising about 1.20 lakh methamphetamine tablets, was recovered from the possession of Yahya Hussain (23), a resident of Jagannathpur in Assam’s Karimganj district, and Lalchhuanliana (45), a resident of Champhai district, Mizoram.

Man sentenced to life imprisonment for raping stepdaughter

Agartala, Feb 14 (UNI) A 52-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a special POCSO court in West Tripura for raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter in April 2024 in the Mandai area on the eastern outskirts of Agartala.
Special Public Prosecutor Jayanta Chowdhury said that the court ruled that the convict will remain behind bars for the remainder of his natural life. In addition to life imprisonment, the convict was fined Rs 5,000.

Kolkata, Feb 14 (UNI) The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearings of electoral rolls in West Bengal concluded on Saturday after 50 days, with the Election Commission of India estimating that 6.61 lakh voter names may be deleted, most of them linked to nearly 5 lakh voters who failed to appear for hearings.
