Overprotective parenting tied to student anxiety, says study

New Delhi, Sept 5 (UNI) If you tend to be over protective or control your child’s every move, it might backfire when they face the pressures of university life.
New research from McGill University and UCLA has warned that first-year undergraduates raised by overly cautious or controlling parents are more likely to experience heightened anxiety during the stressful transition to college.
The takeaway? Giving your child room to grow, face challenges, and develop coping skills might be the best gift you can offer before they step into the world of higher education, said the researchers of the study after surveying 240 first-year students at McGill University during the initial six weeks of the fall semester.
