Police step up anti-smuggling drive after Bengal regime change

Siliguri, May 11 (UNI) Police have launched a strict crackdown against cattle smuggling in West Bengal's border districts soon after the formation of the new BJP government in the state, sources said on Monday.
he move comes after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, at his government's first Cabinet meeting during the day, decided to hand over the required land for fencing the Indo-Bangladesh border to the Border Security Force (BSF) within 45 days, following commitments made by union Home Minister Amit Shah during the recent Assembly election campaign.
In a significant operation, personnel from the Gazole Police Station in Malda district on Sunday seized three pickup vans laden with cattle.
