Portugal held by spirited DR Congo in 1-1 World Cup draw

Houston, June 17 (UNI) Portugal squandered an early lead and were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against DR Congo in a hard-fought Group Stage encounter of the FIFA World Cup 2026 at NRG Stadium here on Wednesday.
Roberto Martinez's side appeared to be on course for victory after taking the lead in just the sixth minute through midfielder João Neves. The Portuguese controlled much of the opening half and looked comfortable against a disciplined DR Congo outfit.
However, the African side struck a crucial blow just before the interval when Yoane Wissa equalised in the fifth minute of first-half stoppage time. The goal shifted momentum and gave the Leopards renewed confidence heading into the second half.
