Precision medicine offers new hope in Lupus care: Experts say at International Rheumatology seminar

Thiruvananthapuram, May 20 (UNI) Precision medicine is emerging as a transformative approach in the management of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), a complex autoimmune condition that predominantly affects women, leading global rheumatology experts have said.
Speaking at the two-day scientific seminar Lupus Connect 2.0, jointly organized by the Institute of Rheumatology and Immunology Sciences (IRIS) and the Women’s Health in Rheumatology Association (WHIRA), specialists highlighted that personalized treatment pathways can help control disease progression, prevent organ damage, and significantly improve long-term outcomes.
Explaining the disease burden, Dr Ioannis Parodis of the Karolinska Institute noted that SLE affects over half a million people globally. He stressed that lack of awareness continues to be the biggest barrier to early diagnosis, often allowing the disease to silently progress in its initial stages.
