Pulkit Samrat did a lot of preparation for 'Glory'

Mumbai, May 14 (UNI) For Bollywood actor Pulkit Samrat, stepping into the world of "Glory" was not just about playing another character but about completely immersing oneself in the emotional and physical world of a boxer from Haryana.
To understand Haryana's boxing culture, the language, the tone of conversation and the emotional darkness within the character, Samrat underwent intense preparation, which included discipline, sensitivity and complete dedication.
Performance collaborators Raghav and Sanjay, who worked closely with Pulkit on his performance and emotional preparation for the series, spoke candidly about the creative process behind "Glory", Samrat's unique effort to understand the Haryanvi accent, and his constant curiosity to learn.
They said, "Pulkit first focused on understanding the emotional and social world of the character. We still remember our initial conversations focused on understanding the world these characters come from, what honour, prestige, and family honour mean in that environment, what is at stake for them, and what success looks like in the boxing culture of Haryana, where there is a boxing academy on almost every street.
"We wanted to understand how difficult it really is for someone to stand out in such a world. Our preparation wasn't limited to boxing. We wanted to understand the food, the language, and the rhythm of conversation," they said.
"It was incredibly helpful that the 42-year-old actor spent time in Haryana with the Rekki team and experienced these things up close. To be honest, we weren't officially a dialogue or dialect coach on this project, but we'd like to share an incident that truly demonstrated his hard work," theys said.
Raghav once casually suggested that he try rapping in Haryanvi, as it made it easier to understand the rhythm, energy, and flow of the language. However, Raghav simply forgot about it. But a week later, Pulkit surprised everyone.
"He then performed a full Haryanvi rap with complete confidence, attitude, and rhythm. It was truly impressive. Honestly, that moment showed us the true level of Samrat's commitment. What impressed them was not just that he did it, but that he dedicated himself so completely to the idea in such a short time. He wanted to understand the language and the world in a profound way, not superficially," they said.
Raghav and Sanjay said, "There were many scenes in the series that required Pulkit to delve deeply emotionally, especially those where characters try to remain calm on the outside, but a lot is going on inside. The doll scenes were particularly important in this regard.
"The basement scene in Episode 5 was also significant, and the Mohammed Ali scene was also emotionally significant. Pulkit's ability to absorb emotions quickly and truthfully is also commendable. If you give him an image, a thought, or an emotional state, he captures it quickly and honestly. He is completely open to the process, and that's why we were able to reach emotional depths so quickly," they said.
According to them, they explored this character in many different ways. These included watching films and performances as references, movement exercises, attitude lines, animal poses, improvisation, answering over 80 character questions, rehearsing scenes repeatedly on camera, breaking down each line to understand it, and constantly experimenting.
Samrat was completely dedicated throughout this process and never took any shortcuts. Furthermore, despite being in the industry for many years, he approached the process like a new student. What inspired them the most was that even after so many years, he still treated himself like a student. UNI NST SSP
