Rahul skipping VP oath disrespects OBC leader: BJP MP

Bengaluru, Sept 12 (UNI) BJP Rajya Sabha member Lahar Singh Siroya today accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of showing "disrespect to democratic traditions" by skipping the swearing-in ceremony of the new Vice President of India, an event attended by several senior leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge.
In a statement issued here, Siroya said Rahul Gandhi’s absence amounted to “disrespect” not only to constitutional conventions but also to the Vice President, an OBC leader from Tamil Nadu. "Of late, he has been talking quite a lot about OBCs. This should tell us how much he really respects them. People in Bihar will understand this too," the BJP MP remarked.
Siroya questioned why the function was "important enough" for Kharge to attend, but "not important" for Rahul Gandhi, who holds a constitutional post as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
