Rain, thunderstorm and windstorm disrupt normal life in Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, May 22 (UNI) Normal life was disrupted in many parts of Himachal Pradesh due to widespread thunderstorm activity, gusty winds, and moderate rainfall, as per the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) bulletin on Thursday.
Several areas including Palampur (24.4 mm), Solan (21.8 mm), Olinda (41.0 mm), BBMB (36.0 mm), and Slapper (33.5 mm) received significant rainfall. Thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms were reported from various locations including Shimla, Bhuntar, Kangra, Jubberhatti, and Palampur. Media reports also confirmed hailstorms in Bangana Revenue and Una districts.
Gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 80 kmph were recorded in Kufri, while Bilaspur reported 70 kmph, and Shimla experienced winds at 54 kmph. These high-velocity winds led to temporary power outages, uprooting of trees, and disruption of traffic in several hilly and urban areas.
