Romania defeats Cyprus 2-0 in World Cup qualifier

Bucharest, June 12 (UNI) Romania secured a 2-0 victory over Cyprus at the National Arena in Bucharest in Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Goals from Florin Tanase and Dennis Man late in the first half were enough to hand Romania a comfortable win, keeping it in contention for a top spot in the group.
Tanase opened the scoring in the 43rd minute after a swift counterattack initiated by Man. Just
before halftime, Man doubled the lead with a composed finish following a one-two with Denis
Dragus.
Romania created early chances, including a close-range effort by Mihai Popescu and a long-range shot from Man, both saved by Cypriot goalkeeper Joel Mall. The match featured two VAR checks in the first half, both involving potential red card incidents.
However, Lithuanian referee Donatas Rumsas upheld his original decisions after reviewing the footage.
Despite some defensive lapses, Romania kept a clean sheet, with goalkeeper Stefan Moldovan making key saves to deny Cyprus.
In the second half, Romania controlled the tempo but failed to extend its lead.

India end engagements at Lonato World Cup

New Delhi, July 13 (UNI) India ended engagements at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun in Lonato, after the pair of Lakshay Sheoran (22,19,25) and Neeru Dhanda (25,24,25), despite shooting a perfect third series, fell short of the Trap Mixed Team medal rounds. They totaled 140 out of a possible 150 in the qualifying round to finish 10th among 54 pairs.
