Russian scientists develop new method for predicting properties of graphene films

Moscow, May 20 (UNI) In a major scientific breakthrough, Russian scientists, in a joint effort with peers from China and Saudi Arabia have developed a method for predicting the properties of graphene films — an ultra-strong material widely used in electronics, medicine, and advanced manufacturing, at the Chelyabinsk State University.
The authors of the study believe that their results can be used to design advanced materials with specified properties. The result is presented in Scientific Reports, according to Russia’s state-owned-media agency, RIA Novosti.
Graphene, discovered in 2004, is a one-atom-thick layer of carbon arranged in a honeycomb pattern. Known as a “wonder material”, it is incredibly strong, lightweight, and an excellent conductor of electricity and heat. Although it’s over 1,000 times thinner than aluminium foil, it has similar strength, making it one of the most durable materials ever created.
