Ryan Coogler calls Oscar recognition for ‘Sinners’ a ‘fortunate moment’

Los Angeles, Jan 24 (UNI) Director Ryan Coogler has expressed his happiness over the overwhelming response to Sinners, which emerged as the most-nominated film at this year’s Academy Awards. Speaking to Variety, Coogler said he feels grateful for the recognition the film has received from the Oscar jury.
“I was very impressed by everything that my collaborators were doing every day, so I’m so happy that everybody got recognised by their peers. Obviously, I’m biased. I think these folks I work with are some of the best in the world. I feel really fortunate, because it doesn’t always go that way,” Coogler said, as quoted by Variety.
The nominations for the 98th Academy Awards were announced on Thursday, with Sinners leading the race after securing a record-breaking 16 nominations.
Starring Michael B. Jordan in the lead role, the supernatural thriller earned nods for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor (Jordan), Best Supporting Actress (Wunmi Mosaku), Best Supporting Actor (Delroy Lindo), Original Screenplay, Casting, Production Design, Cinematography, Costume Design, Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound, Visual Effects, Original Score, and Original Song for I Lied to You, according to Variety.
With this achievement, Sinners has surpassed previous record-holders such as Titanic, La La Land, and All About Eve to become the most-nominated film in Academy Awards history. The film has also made history as only the seventh movie to receive nominations in every technical category.
Leonardo DiCaprio’s One Battle After Another followed closely behind with 13 nominations, including Best Picture. Other films in the awards race this year include Frankenstein, Bugonia, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, Sentimental Value, Train Dreams, F1, and The Secret Agent.
