Sarvam AI bags unicorn status, raises USD 234 million; HCLTech to acquire 10.46 pc stake

New Delhi, June 15 (UNI) India’s full-stack sovereign artificial intelligence (AI) company, Sarvam AI, has become a unicorn after raising $234 million (Rs 2,210 crore).
The funding came through a Series B round led by HCLTech and Bessemer Venture Partners, with participation from existing investors Khosla Ventures and Peak XV Partners.
According to Tracxn data, the fundraise marks a sharp increase from Sarvam's previous valuation of about $196 million in 2025, when it raised $228,000 from Avvanti Advisors.
HCLTech will acquire a 10.46 per cent stake in the Bengaluru-based startup for Rs 1,427.25 crore, making it the lead strategic investor.

HCLTech said the partnership combines Sarvam's AI research with the IT services firm’s enterprise relationships, engineering capabilities and global reach to build a sovereign AI platform for enterprises and governments.
“Our investment in Sarvam marks a significant step toward building India's trusted and globally competitive AI ecosystem,” said C Vijayakumar, chief executive of HCLTech.
The investment will fund Sarvam’s continued research on training its next frontier model for agentic, coding, and cybersecurity use-cases, as well as access to compute at scale to expand its forward-deployed motion across key verticals, the companies said in a joint statement.
Sarvam develops AI technologies across the stack, including model training and inference infrastructure, frontier-model research and enterprise, developer and government applications.
Sarvam has recently released a series of AI models trained from scratch in India, including a 105-billion-parameter reasoning model and a 30-billion-parameter model designed to run on consumer-grade hardware.UNI VK AAB
